Burglar alarms are not the be-all and end-all of home security. There are plenty of other things you can install in your home that will help to stop a burglar from gaining entry – and many of them are very simple and inexpensive.
The entry points are the points to focus upon. You need locks on your door which are tamper-resistant. Secondly you need secured hinges and a door made out of strong and solid material. This material shouldn't be plastic or glass of course. Ideally, you should have an extra deadbolt that you put on at night, made from very strong metal.
Toughened double-glazed windows are almost impossible to penetrate into. If you really want to raise the bar in the home security area you should install window locks. And don't forget the metal bars. You really should consider installing them if your house has windows which are easily and discreetly accessible from the street. Think of windows like in your basement.
Most of us forget the back of the house. Most burglaries occur from the back of the house instead of the front. Think of putting high fences in your garden. And maybe you should consider using anti-climbing fences or start using spikes and/or anti-climb paint. Some people really don't like the use of fences and therefore need an alternative; high and big hedges!.
Probably one of the best ways to keep burglars out of your house is by taking a dog. Burglars don't like to deal with dogs!. They avoid houses which are known to have dogs inside of them.
Home security works best if you put up a sign with "beware of the dog" up. This works best with the bigger dogs as they will scare the burglars off. The German Shepherd or a bulldog will work best. Not only because of its size, but also for its reputation in the area of guard instincts. They are known to be not too nice to strangers, isn't it?
